Make Old Delhi-style Creamy Chicken Changezi at Home
Ingredients
- 1 kg Chicken Thighs or Drumsticks
- 2 tbsp oil
- 3 tbsp Yoghurt
- 2 tbsp tomato purée
- 2 tsp Lemon Juice
- 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 Chopped Medium Onions
- 2 Chopped Medium Tomatoes
- 10 cashews
- 3 Bay leaves
- 2 Dry red chillies
- 2 Black cardamom
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Corinader Seeds
- 1/3 tsp Asafoetida
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 1/3 tsp red chilli powder
- ½ Cumin Powder
- ½ salt
- 6 tbsp oil
- 4 tbsp cream
- A Handful Fresh Coriander Leaves
Instructions
- Combine all marinade ingredients except yoghurt and tomato puree. Marinate the chicken for 45 minutes. After that add yoghurt and tomato puree and marinate for another 30 minutes.
- In a wide pot, heat oil over medium flame, sauté onions and cashews until onions become translucent. Turn off the stove and grind them into a fine paste with some water once the onions cool down. In the same pan, add oil, asafoetida, cumin seeds, bay leaves, dry red chillies and black cardamom. Sauté for a minute.
- Add the blended onion-cashew paste and sauté for a minute. Add all the other spices and stir fry. Then add tomatoes and cook until the mixture releases oil.
- Add the marinated chicken along with 1 cup of water, stir well. Cover and cook for 25-30 minutes over low-medium heat. Once done, add cream, mix well and cook again for 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle coriander leaves on top to garnish it and serve hot with rice or naan.

The recipe involves bone-in chicken; however, you can also use boneless chicken. For best melt-in-the-mouth result, cook the chicken on low heat.
