What is Salli Nu Chicken?
Salli Nu Chicken came to India during the early 17th century when Parsis from Iran immigrated to parts of the world, especially India and Pakistan. With time, Indians started falling in love with this mouth-watering dish prepared during the Parsi New Year.
The word “Salli” means potato stick, these are used to add a crunchy element. Other names of the plate are Jardaloo Salli Marghi, salli boti or murgh and so on. The main ingredient of this Parsi non-veg recipe is the chicken, which is cooked with dried apricots, aromatic spices, and herbs and further topped with fried potatoes.
The chicken pieces are sauteed well with veggies like garlic, onion, and potatoes, making them flavoursome and spicy. Also, jaggery is an inextricable part of the Parsi cuisine that works as a sweetener in all dishes. However, the taste is mellowed down a notch just by adding fried matchstick potatoes.
