What is Dal Nu Gosht?
Dal Nu Gosht is an integral part of Parsi cuisine served in almost all Parsi restaurants. Along with other Parsi dishes, it ranks high on the list of drool-worthy special occasion meals. Due to its immense popularity, this dish became the talk of the town for many years. It is mutton with an original mix of exotic species, masoor dal and herbs.

- 300 grams masoor dal
- 500 grams Licious Rich Goat Curry Cut
- 2 large finely chopped tomatoes
- 2 large finely chopped onions
- 3 finely chopped green chillies
- 3 tbsp Finely chopped coriander leaves
- 2 springs of curry leaves
- 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp sambar masala
- ½ tsp tamarind juice
- 1 tbsp jaggery
- 1½ tbsp salt or as per taste
- 6 tbsp refined oil
- ½ tsp chilli powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp Cinnamon powder
- ½ tsp coarse black pepper
- 1 whole star anise
Ingredients
Parsi Masala Mix -

- Marinate the mutton using ginger garlic paste and salt.
- Wash the masoor dal thoroughly. Keep it aside for some time.
- Transfer the mutton and masoor dal to a pressure cooker. Add 6 cups of water to the cooker.
- Wait for 7-9 whistles or till the mutton becomes tender.
- In a pan on medium heat, add 6 tbsp of refined oil and curry leaves. Once the leaves start crackling, add onions and green chillies to the mixture. Cook them till golden brown.
- Add tomatoes, sambar masala, and Parsi masala mix; add 1⁄2 cup of water. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add masoor dal and mutton pieces to the mixture. Do not mash this, stir gently.
- Once the curry starts to bubble, add jaggery and tamarind juice to the mixture. Once you're happy with the consistency, turn off the stove.
- Garnish with coriander leaves 2 minutes before serving.
- Serve hot with roti or naan and ghee pickle.
